Our latest blog installment of “Real WED Brides” is featuring our beautiful bride Payton, who is wearing our fit-n-flare Lillian West gown.
Enjoy this Q&A about WED Bride, Payton and her new husband, Colton’s special day!
How did you and your fiancé meet and how’d he propose?
The first time Colton and I met was on a summer trip to my family’s lake house in Possum Kingdom. I was 11 and he was 13. I have a cousin who is Colton’s same age that lived in Idalou (Colton’s hometown). They were good friends through middle school, so this was our mutual connection and why we met initially at the lake house, but I wasn’t really concerned about boys at the age of 11.
We saw each other here and there throughout the years and I always thought he was a cute and sweet boy, but not much more than that. During my freshman year at Tech (Colton was a junior), he reached out to me through social media and asked for my number and a date. Pretty quickly after that I fell in love, the guy became my best friend, and knew I wanted to marry him someday, sure that he felt the same way.
Fast forward 2 years, on Colton’s graduation day, and we got engaged. He proposed … on the football field in the middle of the Jones AT&T Stadium with all of our family and closest friends there. What I thought was going to be a graduation party at the Tech club and graduation pictures down on the football field turned into the best surprise engagement!
Was there anything that changed from you and your fiancé’s original vision to what actually came to be on your wedding day?
The vision I had in my head of our wedding day was somewhat modern, but classic, and very simple. I was super specific in planning out the finer details of the day, but not necessarily how the details would come together as a whole. Seeing how every little detail fit perfectly together the day of was just magical. Our day was so much more than we could have ever asked or prayed for.
What is the most memorable moment you had during your wedding day?
The most memorable moments that I have from my wedding day are during our wedding ceremony. Seeing the emotions of my groom as I walked down the aisle and sharing our personal vows with one another are such special moments that I will never forget. My husband also said that one of his most memorable moments of the day was seeing me walk down the aisle and crying while we said our vows to one another.
Did you have any “bloopers” or funny moments on the day of that you’ll always remember?
When Colton went to take off my garter, he had a pair of granny panties hidden in his sleeve and jokingly pulled these out first before my garter. The reception continued after this and towards the end of the night, somehow the entire 6 pack of granny panties that Colton had bought for the occasion made their way into the barn where we had our reception. While the song “Twist and Shout” played, all of the panties were being thrown into the air and one pair made their way to the string of lights that went across the room. Colton sees is as his personal duty to make me laugh and that’s exactly what he did. Glad to have a husband that loves to laugh with me and keeps me on my toes!
Last but not least, what is your favorite local Funky Town (AKA Fort Worth) date night spot? Either for happy hour, dinner or entertainment.
We love La Bella Italy for dinner. It’s a cute little hole in the wall restaurant close to TCU’s campus, with great Italian dishes and the options to BYOB. There’s an Albertsons a short walk away from the restaurant if you wanted to grab your choice of drink on the way over to dinner.
We’re so glad to have gotten to know you during this sweet time, Payton, and are honored you chose to be a WED Bride! Congratulations to you and Colton!
